Building a household with a partner is certainly one of life's challenges. Everyone wants to build a harmonious family together until death do them part.

However, when it comes to family life, there are certainly many role models to emulate. For Muslims, the family of the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) can certainly be a reference and even an obligation in raising a family.

The Prophet Muhammad was an extraordinary role model in marriage. Not only as a family leader, but also regarding how to treat his partner and children.

Description of the Household of the Prophet Muhammad SAW

The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) is a role model for you in raising a family. He was renowned for his love for children, compassion for animals, concern for the weak, and respect for women.

This was evident in his actions when building a household with his partner. The Prophet never viewed himself as a ruler while other family members, including his children and wife, were servants.

However, he always considered everyone in the family equally important. Be it his spouse or wife or children, he considered them essential parts of the family unit.

Furthermore, even as the head of the family, the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) still participated in household chores. This included being involved in the care of his children and grandchildren.

1.      The House of the Prophet was Decorated with Worship

Muslims certainly understand that the primary purpose of marriage is to worship Allah SWT. Therefore, you can emulate the Prophet's family, who always decorated their home with acts of worship.

The Prophet Muhammad always invited his wives to worship together, fasting on the Sunnah, and other acts of worship that could be performed together. Therefore, you, as a Muslim and family leader, can follow his example.

2.      Far from Anger and Hatred

In domestic life, the Prophet was always far from anger and hatred. The Prophet Muhammad SAW himself was a polite and patient person so he never uttered harsh words or was lighthearted towards his wife or children.

It is even said that the Prophet Muhammad once returned home late at night. Unwilling to disturb Aisha, who was already sound asleep, he decided to sleep in front of her door.

3.      Gentle and Loving

A gentle and loving attitude reflects the family of the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him). The Prophet compared a wife to a rib, which, if forced to straighten, can break.

However, if left untreated it will remain bent without changing. Therefore, a husband should carry out his function as a leader but in a way that is full of affection.

4.      Good at pleasing his wives.

The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) was a figure who deeply loved his wives and always tried to please them. In one account, the Prophet, who was already an old man at the time, was willing to compete with his wife Aisha in a running race.

As the leader of the household , a husband must be able to please family members, including his wife. For example, by taking her out for walks, shopping together, helping with housework, and so on.

Tips for Maintaining Harmony According to the Guidance of the Prophet Muhammad SAW

We've explained what household . To build a harmonious family modeled after the Prophet Muhammad, here are some tips you can apply.

Try sleeping with your partner under the same blanket to maintain harmony. Next, eat and drink together, even sharing a plate or drinking from the same glass, to enhance harmony.

Kiss your wife often, not just her face but also her hands. You can also comb and stroke her hair. While it may seem simple, it's effective in maintaining harmony with your partner.

You can also help with housework, whether it's sweeping or other things you can do. Then, call your partner or wife affectionately like what the Prophet did to his wives.

Then, spend time with your partner, either chatting or doing things you enjoy. With all these tips, you can improve marital following the example of the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him).
