Cordoba Quran - In Islam, maintaining health is an act of worship. The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) taught principles of healthy living that have now been scientifically proven in modern medicine. This article discusses four medically healthy lifestyle patterns according to Islam, encompassing diet, sleep, exercise, and mental and spiritual well-being.
All are equipped with evidence from the Qur'an, hadith, and medical health.
Islam teaches balance in all things, including eating.
The verses of the Qur'an:
Meaning: "O children and grandchildren of Adam! Wear your nice clothes every time (entering) the mosque, eat and drink, but do not overdo it. Indeed, Allah does not like people who overdo it." (QS. Al-A'raf: 31)
Ibn Kathir said, "Allah has gathered all medical knowledge in this half verse." That is, " Eat and drink, but do not be excessive ." (Tafsir Ibn Kathir)
Hadith of the Prophet ﷺ:
Meaning: “ There is no worse place than filling the stomachs of the children of Adam. It is enough for the children of Adam to consume what makes their bones strong. If it is necessary to fill them, then one-third is for their food, one-third is for their drink, and one-third is for their breath .” (Narrated by At-Tirmidhi)
Overeating can lead to various diseases such as obesity and diabetes. Conversely, a balanced, well-fed stomach and a sufficient diet will maintain the immune system and prolong life, resulting in good health.
Allah created the night for rest.
The verses of the Qur'an:
"And We made your sleep for rest." (QS. An-Naba: 9)
Meaning: " And among His signs is your sleep by night and by day and your seeking of His bounty ." (QS. Ar-Rum: 23)
Getting enough sleep at night plays a role in detoxifying the body, regenerating cells, and strengthening the immune system.
"Take a nap, because Satan does not do that." (Narrated by Abu Nu'aim)
Therefore, according to Ulama, taking a nap before or after Dhuhr for 15-30 minutes can improve focus, memory, and productivity afterwards.
Makruh Sleeping After Fajr:
Sleeping after Fajr is said to eliminate the blessings of the morning, as the Prophet said:
"O Allah, bless my people in the morning." (HR. Abu Daud)
The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ strongly encouraged his followers to be physically or spiritually strong.
Hadith of the Prophet ﷺ:
Meaning: "A strong believer is better and more beloved to Allah than a weak believer. However, both have goodness. Be enthusiastic about things that benefit you. Ask Allah for help, do not be weak." (Narrated by Muslim, no. 2664).
Recommended sports:
Islamic Sports Requirements:
Modern examples: morning exercise or walking every day while reciting dhikr, which strengthens the physical and mental at the same time.
Mental health greatly determines the quality of life. In Islam, peace of mind is obtained from faith, qanaah (feeling sufficient), and contentment with God's destiny.
Hadith of the Prophet ﷺ:
"Wealth is not a lot of possessions, but wealth is a heart that has enough." (HR. Bukhari and Muslim)
"Indeed, great rewards come with great trials. If Allah loves a servant, then He will test him. If he is pleased, then Allah is pleased." (HR. At-Tirmidhi no. 2396)
Life and health are tests, just as illness is a test of patience. Therefore, stress, complaining, and anxiety can be reduced by strengthening faith, increasing remembrance of God, and seeking consent to one's destiny and always being grateful.
Conclusion
Four medically healthy lifestyles in Islam demonstrate that the teachings of the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) are relevant and aligned with modern medical science. Therefore, the Cordoba Quran presents a selection of the latest Mushafs at the end of 1446 AH. This is called the Medical Quran, with thematic content on physical and spiritual health, the Prophet's health, and more.
By maintaining a healthy diet, good sleep, regular exercise, and maintaining mental and spiritual health, Muslims can live a quality life and worship full of blessings.
And Allah knows best
