Linguistically, "maqam" means a place to stand or a position. So, don't misunderstand. Maqam Ibrahim is not the tomb or grave of the Prophet Ibrahim, but rather the stone used as a stepping stone during the construction of the Kaaba in the Grand Mosque in Mecca. So, Maqam Ibrahim is a stone located near the Kaaba, about 10 or 11 meters away.
Besides the Black Stone, the Maqam Ibrahim (Station of Ibrahim) holds immense historical and spiritual significance in Islam. Maqam Ibrahim is believed to be the stone on which Prophet Ibrahim (peace be upon him) stood while building the Kaaba with his son, Prophet Ishmael (peace be upon him). Historically, this stone bears the footprints of Prophet Ibrahim (peace be upon him), left when he climbed onto it to reach the top of the Kaaba during the construction process.
Allah SWT. says in surah Al-Baqarah regarding the station of Ibrahim,
"And (remember), when We made the house (Kaaba) a gathering place and a safe place for people. And made Ibrahim's station a place of prayer. And We commanded Ibrahim and Ismail, "Cleanse My house for those who are tawaf, those who are iktikaf, those who bow and those who prostrate!" (QS. Al-Baqarah, 2: 125)
