Does FOMO make you anxious and never satisfied? Be careful, it could be an early symptom of Wahn disease. Learn how the Medical Quran provides solutions to avoid Wahn and FOMO, so that our lives are filled with blessings.

The Dangers of FOMO and Wahl's Disease

Quran Cordoba - Have you ever felt anxious just because you're missing out on social media?
For example, all your friends have tried a new cafe, gone on vacation to a popular destination, or jumped on the online shopping bandwagon, while you haven't. You feel anxious, afraid of being labeled "out of touch." That's called FOMO (Fear of Missing Out).

What is FOMO and Wahn?

The danger of FOMO (Fear of Missing Out) is a feeling of anxiety or fear of missing out on something important or interesting, such as an event, trend, or activity that is happening around you, especially due to exposure on social media.

This feeling often makes a person compare themselves with the lives of others who seem more pleasant and can cause dissatisfaction, envy, and even disruption in daily life.

At first glance, FOMO seems trivial. But if left unchecked, it can develop into a heart disease known in Islam as wahn . The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said:

God bless you الأَكَلَةُ إِلَى قَصْعَتِهَا »

. فَقَالَ قَائِلٌ وَمِنْ قِلَّةٍ نَحْنُ يَوْمَئِذٍ قَالَ « بَلْ God willing God willing الْمَهَابَةَ مِنْكُمْ وَلَيَقْذِفَنَِ الْوَهَنَ »

. « God bless you

“A time will come when nations will fight over you like hungry people fighting over food.”
The Companions asked, “Will it be because we are few in number at that time?”
He replied, “In fact, you are many, but like the foam of the sea. Allah will take away the enemy’s fear of you, and instill in your hearts ‘wahn’.”
They asked, “What is wahn?”
He replied, “Love of the world and fear of death.” (Narrated by Abu Dawud, 4297; Ahmad, 5/278).

FOMO turns out to have the same roots as wahn: fear of missing out on the world and excessive obsession with it.

Medical Quran : Wahn and Mental Health

From a medical Quranic , the human body and soul are interconnected. When the heart is filled with anxiety, the brain and nerves are also affected. FOMO makes a person constantly anxious, making it difficult to feel satisfied even when they have achieved much.

Modern science states that this condition is related to dopamine , a chemical in the brain that provides a feeling of pleasure or reward.

  • When we get likes on social media, buy new things, or get a bonus at work, dopamine increases.
  • But if this becomes a habit, the brain can become “addicted to dopamine.” As a result, we continually pursue false satisfaction without ever feeling satisfied.

Psychological research sources confirm that excessive obsession with rewards actually leads to chronic stress, anxiety, and even depression (Bhandari, Descriptive Psychopathology , Elsevier, 2012).

The Medical Quran emphasizes balance: the body needs happiness, but the heart must be controlled so as not to fall into wahn.

Signs of FOMO That Could Be "Wahn"

Try to reflect for a moment, have you ever experienced the following?

  1. Always Wanting More:
Salary increases, but still feeling inadequate. Whatever you have, you always want more.
  2. Social Media Obsession
Fear of missing out on trends, always having to update your feed to look perfect.
  3. No Time for Worship
Being busy pursuing worldly pursuits makes prayer, supplication, or reading the Qur'an neglected.
  4. Empty Heart
Even though material things are abundant, the heart still feels empty.

If these signs are already felt, it means FOMO is eating away at our souls. This is where Quran Medicine offers a solution: returning to the Quran and spiritual peace.

Prayer and Quranic : Medicine for a Restless Soul

The Koran is not just a holy book, but also a remedy for restless hearts . Allah says:

Allah's blessings

"Remember, only by remembering Allah can your heart be at peace." (QS. Ar-Ra'd: 28).

Engaging in Quranic recitation can reduce anxiety and stress levels. Medical research shows that reciting the Quran can calm the nervous system, lower heart rate, and even improve sleep patterns.

When the fear of losing this world begins to emerge, distract yourself with prayer, dhikr, and recitation of the Quran. This is the "medical Quranic prescription" for regaining spiritual stability.

How to Overcome FOMO According to the Medical Quran and Sunnah
  1. Practice Gratitude Every Day.
Write down three small things you're grateful for. Gratitude shifts your focus from lack to blessings.
  2. Limit your social media exposure
. Reduce excessive scrolling. Remember, life isn't a competition of "who's more up-to-date?"
  3. Increase your dhikr and recitations.
The Prophet ﷺ taught morning and evening dhikr as a "protector of the heart." The Medical Quran emphasizes that this is not just worship, but therapy for the soul.
  4. Remind yourself that the afterlife
is only temporary. True happiness comes when your heart is at peace and your deeds are accepted by Allah.
  5. Focus on Charity that Has Eternal Value
Instead of being busy chasing worldly validation, use your energy to help others, give alms, or increase your knowledge.

World in Hands, Hereafter in Heart

Islam doesn't forbid us from achieving success or acquiring wealth. What is forbidden, however, is keeping worldly things in our hearts to the point of forgetting the true purpose of life.

The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) warned Muslims not to be like the foam on the ocean: numerous, but fragile because their hearts are dominated by worldly desires. This is the danger of wahn, which is often overlooked.

FOMO is just one of the "entrances" to digital-age vahn. Therefore, the cure isn't just time management or a social media detox, but also a return to the Quran and prayer.

Conclusion: The Medical Quran Teaches Balance

The danger of FOMO can make life feel empty, even when it's full of activities and accomplishments. However, the Quran provides a way to keep the heart alive. The Medical Quran reminds us that true health is not just about the body, but also about a calm soul, an open heart, and a peaceful mind.

So, don't let FOMO control you. Put the world in your hands, not your heart. Remember, true happiness comes from Allah—with gratitude, prayer, and the Koran that enlivens the soul.
