Quran Cordoba - Have you ever entered a house that felt gloomy, quiet and empty, even though there were residents?
The aura of the house is cold, the atmosphere gloomy, as if there's "no life" within. Conversely, there's a simple, unadorned home that feels warm, peaceful, and reassuring. What's the secret?
It turns out the difference lies in the recitation of the Quran. In the Medical Quran (p. 261), it is stated that a home enlivened by the recitation of the Quran not only provides inner peace but also impacts the mental and physical health of its occupants.
The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) himself provided guidance on how to make a home “alive” and blessed.
"Do not make your house like a grave. Indeed, the devil will flee from the house in which Surah Al-Baqarah is recited." (HR Muslim, No. 1300)
In this hadith, the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ emphasized that a house empty of the recitation of the Qur'an is like a grave—a silent place, without a soul, and lacking in blessings.

Imagine two homes with equally modest living conditions. One hears the recitation of holy verses almost daily, while the other rarely touches the Quran. The difference is palpable.
• A living house: feels shady, full of blessings, comfortable to live in.
• Dead house: gloomy, full of negative energy, frequent conflicts between family members.
This is where the Medical Quran offers an interesting perspective: reciting the Quran affects the psychological and physical well-being of the occupants of the house. The verses of the Quran are like "spiritual oxygen" that breathes life into the walls, floors, and air of our homes.
Allah SWT explains about the spirit of the Koran in surah Ash-Shura verse 52, His verses are able to enliven the hearts of the readers:
"And thus We revealed to you (Muhammad) the spirit (of the Qur'an) by Our command. Previously you did not know what the Book (Al-Qur'an) was and what faith was, but We made the Qur'an a light, with it We gave guidance to whom We willed among Our servants."

Many people don't realize that reciting the Quran has not only spiritual but also medical benefits. A systematic review published in the Journal of Nursing and Midwifery Research (2018) found that regularly listening to Quranic recitation can reduce anxiety and increase mental well-being.
The results of this study show some interesting facts about its influence:
• Reduces stress and anxiety: The rhythmic pattern of the sound of the Quran affects brain waves, making the body more relaxed.
• Stabilizes heart rate: The sound of reciting the Quran helps lower blood pressure and calms the nervous system.
• Improve sleep quality: Listening to murottal before bed helps the body reach a more optimal rest phase.
In the context of the Medical Quran, this demonstrates that reciting the Quran is a therapy for the soul. A home filled with frequent Quranic recitation becomes a place of safety, tranquility, and emotional well-being.

Rasulullah ﷺ gave a simple but profound example. Some of his habits in maintaining the blessings of the house include:
Rasulullah ﷺ said:
From Abu Hurairah ra. that the Messenger of Allah sallallaahu 'alaihi wa sallam said, "Do not make your house like a cemetery. Indeed, the devil runs away (really turns away) from the house where the surah Al-Baqarah is recited to him." (HR. Muslim)
This surah has a tremendous spiritual protective effect.

In addition to reciting the Quran, the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) often taught morning and evening dhikr (remembrance of God) to maintain peace in the home. This remembrance creates peace in the heart and invites blessings.

The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) frequently taught the Quran to his family. Reading the Quran together is not only an act of worship, but also a way to strengthen emotional bonds between family members.

Enlivening your home with Quranic recitation is an investment in your body and soul. A home filled with the recitation of holy verses is not just a place to live, but a place where love, peace, and blessings grow.
From a medical Quran perspective, reciting the Quran is a natural therapy for mental health. From a scientific perspective, reciting its verses helps the body achieve a state of relaxation, boosts immunity, and balances stress hormones.
So, do you want your home to feel peaceful, calm and full of life? Turn it on by reading the Koran.
"Indeed, those who always read the Book of Allah, perform prayers, and spend some of the sustenance that We provide, either secretly or openly, they hope for a trade that will never lose." (QS. Fathir: 29)
