Benefits of Olive Oil for Health

Quran Cordoba - Dalam dunia kesehatan modern yang terus berkembang, minyak zaitun tetap berdiri sebagai salah satu anugerah alam terbaik yang pernah dikenal manusia. Bahkan, jauh sebelum riset dan jurnal ilmiah mengangkat namanya, Al-Qur’an sudah lebih dulu menyebut zaitun sebagai pohon yang penuh berkah.

Inilah yang menjadikan zaitun sebagai bagian penting dalam kajian Quran Medis—konsep pengobatan dan kesehatan yang terinspirasi dari ayat-ayat suci Al-Qur’an.

Allah SWT says in Surah An-Nur verse 35,

يُّوْقَدُ مِنْ شَجَرَةٍ مُّبٰرَكَةٍ زَيْتُوْنَةٍ لَّا شَرْقِيَّةٍ وَّلَا غَرْبِيَّةٍۙ يَّكَادُ زَيْتُهَا يُضِيْۤءُ وَلَوْ لَمْ تَمْسَسْهُ نَارٌۗ

“...yang dinyalakan dengan minyak dari pohon yang diberkahi, yaitu pohon zaitun yang tumbuh tidak di sebelah timur (saja) dan tidak pula di sebelah barat (saja), yang minyaknya hampir-hampir menerangi, walaupun tidak disentuh api.”

 

The mention of olives is also found in Surah An-Nahl verse 11

يُنْۢبِتُ لَكُمْ بِهِ الزَّرْعَ وَالزَّيْتُوْنَ وَالنَّخِيْلَ وَالْاَعْنَابَ وَمِنْ كُلِّ الثَّمَرٰتِۗ اِنَّ فِيْ ذٰلِكَ لَاٰيَةً لِّقَوْمٍ يَّتَفَكَّرُوْنَ 

“With it He causes crops and olives and date palms and grapes and all kinds of fruit to grow for you. Indeed, in this is a sign for people who give thought.”

These verses are not just metaphors for faith, but also show how the olive is a symbol of balance, blessing, and light—both spiritually and physically.

 

Sunnah of Rasulullah SAW: Eating and Applying Olive Oil

The Prophet Muhammad SAW encouraged his people to use olive oil, both by eating it and applying it. In a hadith, Rasulullah SAW said:

God bless you مُبَارَكَةٍ

“Makanlah minyak zaitun dan oleskanlah ia, karena sesungguhnya ia berasal dari pohon yang diberkahi.” (HR Tirmidzi)

This recommendation has now been proven to have a strong scientific basis. In the context of the medical Quran, this hadith is not merely a guide to worship, but a heavenly guide to healthy living. Olives contain various active compounds that can maintain and restore overall human health.

Another verse of the Koran explains the benefits of olives in surah Al-An'am verses 99 and 141;

وَّالزَّيْتُوْنَ وَالرُّمَّانَ مُشْتَبِهًا وَّغَيْرَ مُتَشَابِهٍۗ اُنْظُرُوْٓا اِلٰى ثَمَرِهٖٓ اِذَٓا اَثْمَرَ وَيَنْعِهٖ ۗاِنَّ فِيْ ذٰلِكُمْ لَاٰيٰتٍ لِّقَوْمٍ يُّؤْمِنُوْنَ

“…and (We also took out) similar and dissimilar olives and pomegranates. Pay attention to the fruit when it bears fruit and becomes ripe. Indeed, in that there are signs (of Allah's power) for those who believe.”

 

۞ وَهُوَ الَّذِيْٓ اَنْشَاَ جَنّٰتٍ مَّعْرُوْشٰتٍ وَّغَيْرَ مَعْرُوْشٰتٍ وَّالنَّخْلَ وَالزَّرْعَ مُخْتَلِفًا اُكُلُهٗ وَالزَّيْتُوْنَ وَالرُّمَّانَ مُتَشَابِهًا وَّغَيْرَ مُتَشَابِهٍۗ كُلُوْا مِنْ ثَمَرِهٖٓ اِذَآ اَثْمَرَ وَاٰتُوْا حَقَّهٗ يَوْمَ حَصَادِهٖۖ وَلَا تُسْرِفُوْا ۗاِنَّهٗ لَا يُحِبُّ الْمُسْرِفِيْنَۙ

"Dan Dialah yang menjadikan tanaman-tanaman yang merambat dan yang tidak merambat, pohon kurma, tanaman yang beraneka ragam rasanya, zaitun dan delima yang serupa (bentuk dan warnanya) dan tidak serupa (rasanya). Makanlah buahnya apabila ia berbuah dan berikanlah haknya (zakatnya) pada waktu memetik hasilnya, tapi janganlah berlebih-lebihan. Sesungguhnya Allah tidak menyukai orang-orang yang berlebihan"

  • Dosis aman: 1–2 sendok makan per hari.
  • Direct consumption is better: Avoid heating olive oil so that its compounds are not damaged.
  • Choose extra virgin olive oil: This is the highest quality and purest.

Olive oil doesn't cause obesity when consumed in moderation. In fact, replacing regular cooking oil with olive oil can help reduce belly fat.

Spirituality and Olive Light

Olives are not only physically healthy, but also bring light to life. In Surah At-Tin, Allah says:

وَالتِّيْنِ وَالزَّيْتُوْنِۙ

“Demi (buah) Tin dan (buah) Zaitun...” (QS. At-Tin: 1)
