Make a pilgrimage to the Tomb of the Prophet, Listen to the Prayers and Manners

During the Umrah or Hajj pilgrimage, visiting the Prophet Muhammad's tomb becomes a goal that requires effort and time. The process is challenging, and there's a limited queue for Muslims from around the world to enter. Read on for an explanation of how to visit the Prophet Muhammad's tomb and the etiquette that must be observed.

The Tomb of the Prophet Muhammad SAW

Make a pilgrimage to the tomb of the Prophet Muhammad. So all friends, tabi'in, and ulama agreed that this was recommended and had great rewards. Grave pilgrimages were also practiced by the Apostle when he went to the Baqi grave (the grave of his friends) when he was alive. Of course, the recommendation to make a pilgrimage to the Prophet's grave is even stronger, because of his priority, like Bilal bin Rabah's friend, Abdullah bin Umar, who always makes a pilgrimage to his grave when he goes to Medina.

Manners and Prayers for Pilgrimage to the Mosque and Tomb of the Prophet

After understanding the importance of visiting the Nabawi mosque and the tomb of the Prophet Muhammad. Those who perform the Umrah and Hajj should take the time to visit his grave, then study his etiquette so that he can gain superiority when entering the raudah. Among the etiquettes:

1.     Right Intention

Intending to pray at the Prophet Muhammad's mosque in Medina, while also visiting his grave, reciting many salawat (prayers) upon him, will earn two rewards at once

 

2.     It is recommended to take a shower first

Before entering the noble Nabawi Mosque, it is recommended to clean yourself by taking a bath and wearing neat and clean clothes.

 

3.     Step with your right foot first and pray when entering the door

When you arrive at the door of the Prophet's Mosque, step in with your right foot, and exit with your left foot first. There is a recommended prayer when entering the Prophet's Mosque:

may Allah bless him and give him peace and blessings وَسُلْطَانِهِ الْقَدِيْمِ مِنَ الشَّيْطَانِ الرَّجِيْمِ. بِسْمِ اللهِ وَالْحَمْدُ لِلهِ. God willing وَعَلَى آلِ سَيِّدِنَا مُحَمَّدٍ. God willing رَحْمَتِكَ

Meaning: " I seek refuge in Allah, the Most Great, in His Essence, the Most Exalted, and in His kingdom, which is ready from the evil that is thrown out. In the name of Allah and all praise be to Allah. O my Lord, give blessings and peace to Sayyidina Muhammad and to the family of Sayyidina Muhammad. O my Lord, forgive me all my sins. Open for me all the doors of Your mercy ."

 

4.     Pray, Tahiyyatul Prayers at the Mosque in Raudah, Then Facing the Tomb of the Prophet

This raudah is between the pulpit and the Prophet's house, where his tomb is located. It is recommended to perform voluntary prayers, pray, and recite dhikr as much as possible there, then immediately visit his tomb as recommended. Then, recite the following prayer:

God willing, God willing, God willing, God willing يَا خِيْرَةَ اللهِ مِنْ خَلْقِهِ، السَّلَامُ عَلَيْكَ يَا حَبِيْبَ God bless you God bless you وَأَصْحَابِكَ وَأَهْلِ بَيْتِكَ وَعَلَى النَّبِيِّيْنَ وَسَائِرِ الصَّالِحِيْنَ:

 may Allah bless him and give him peace and blessings God bless you أَفْضَلَ مَا جَزَى رَسُوْلًا عَنْ or


Meaning: "Peace be upon you, O Messenger of Allah, peace be upon you, O chosen creature of Allah, peace be upon you, O beloved of Allah, peace be upon you, O chief of the apostles and seal of the prophets, peace be upon you, your family, your friends, your family members, the prophets, and all the pious people.

I testify that you have delivered messages, fulfilled your mandate, advised the people. "May Allah reward you for our (guiding services) more than He rewarded other messengers for their people," (Al-Adzkar, Imam An-Nawawi)

 5.     Tawaf is not allowed to go around the grave of the Prophet Muhammad

It is necessary to pay attention to the prohibitions or things that are makruh to do around the grave of the Prophet, such as tawaf, stroking, hitting, or gouging the walls of his grave. It is recommended to stand at a distance while offering salawat and praying, as a tribute to the Messenger of Allah.

 

Currently, every day there are special guards called Askar who are on duty around the grave of the Prophet Muhammad. His job is to remind the congregation that is excessively at the prophet's grave, when they do things that are not recommended. Every day the soldiers take turns guarding the grave.

 

6.     During His Residence in Madinah Munawwarah

It is recommended that while in Medina, you pray at the Prophet's Mosque. It is also advisable to visit other graves, such as Baqi' (the graves of the Companions) and the tombs of the martyrs of Uhud.

It is also Sunnah to visit the Quba Mosque as the Messenger of Allah used to do.

The Prophet Muhammad's tomb is next to the tombs of his two companions, Abu Bakr Siddiq and Umar ibn Khattab. Therefore, we are also encouraged to extend our greetings and prayers to those who will continue the message and be his caliphs after his death.

May we all be given the grace and sustenance to be able to make a pilgrimage to the mosque and the tomb of the Prophet. Amen
