Being a memorization of the Koran is the glory, pride, and health of the liver because it is As-Syifa. But liver disease can inhibit this process. Let's recognize some liver diseases that often interfere with the soul of a memorization of the Qur'an.

A calm soul, a clean heart, is the key to memorizing the true Koran

Memorizing the Quran is a great honor. However, are we worthy of being among the chosen people who memorize the words of Allah SWT if we still harbor various heart ailments?

A heart filled with disease is certainly unable to fully receive the light of the Quran. As memorizers of the Quran, we must constantly cleanse our hearts to keep them pure and deeply connected to Allah's verses.

The Virtue of the Qur'an as a Healer of the Heart

The Qur'an is not only a holy book to memorize, but also medicine for a restless heart and soul.

The Quran, also known as Shifa (healing medicine), is a remedy for a sick heart. However, what if a memorizer's heart is dirty and diseased? What causes this? Let's discuss this further.

The Qur'an is the greatest gift from Allah SWT, greater than the gift of human creation itself. The word of Allah in Surah Ar-Rahman confirms the greatness of this holy book. The Qur'an is a great blessing, containing countless benefits for those who believe and practice it.

Besides providing guidance, mercy, explanation, and lessons, another primary function of the Quran is its ability to act as a healer (syifa) for the heart and body. What is the basis for this?

Allah SWT said:

وَنُنَزِّلُ مِنَ الْقُرْاٰنْ لِّلْمُؤْمِنِيْنَۙ وَلَا يَزِيْدُ الظّٰلِمِيْنَ اِلَّا خَسَارًا

" (QS. Al-Isra': 82)

According to scholars such as Imam Al-Qurthubi and Ibnu Qayyim Al-Jauziyah, the Koran can cure physical and spiritual illnesses for those who read it with full faith. Surahs such as Al-Fatihah, the Kursi verse, and Al-Mu'awwidzat are often used as ruqyah to treat physical and mental illnesses.

However, this treatment is only effective for those with strong faith and a pure heart to receive the Quran. If someone doesn't benefit from the Quran, it's not the Quran that's lacking, but rather their faith and heart that are weak and diseased.

True Quran Memorizers Avoid Riya', Ujub, and Other Heart Diseases

Heart disease can damage your intentions and interfere with memorizing the Quran. Recognize and avoid these diseases.

As someone who memorizes the Quran, maintaining a clean heart is crucial. Some heart ailments that often hinder Quran memorization include:

  1. Riya' (Showing Off Good Deeds)
When memorizing the Quran, the temptation to show off or seek recognition from others can arise. Riya' makes memorizing the Quran lose its sincerity, even though the primary intention should be solely for Allah SWT.

Sincerity is the key to accepting charity, including memorizing the Al-Quran. If your intention to become a Hafiz of the Koran is simply to be called Al-Hafiz 30 juz or even to show off, then what a loss it would be if your practice is not accepted by Allah SWT.

  1. Ujub (Amazement at Yourself)
Feeling proud of one's abilities or feeling better than others because of the memorization one has is a form of ujub disease. We should be amazed by the Koran, its miracles, its majesty, and its many virtues.

Don't be overly proud or in awe of yourself. This can lead to arrogance and distance one from the humility or humility that a Quran memorizer should possess.

  1. Hasad (Envy)
When you see other people memorizing faster or better at reading, the emergence of feelings of envy or hasad can damage your relationship with the Qur'an and fellow memorizers.

In fact, it is permissible to have hatred against this group of guardians of the Koran, if in a positive way there is even an order in the context of motivation and competing in goodness. What this means is that what is not allowed is hasad that can pollute the heart and cause it to hurt.

  1. Arrogance (Pride)
Feeling superior simply because you have memorized the Quran is a form of arrogance. In fact, the Quran should serve as a reminder to remain humble before Allah and our fellow human beings.
  2. Weak heart

Memorizing the Quran requires strength, motivation, consistency, and a strong spirit. However, laziness and a weak spirit are often the main obstacles. Laziness in reviewing and learning proper Tajweed can weaken memorization and prevent it from being firmly ingrained. Even after memorizing 30 chapters of the Quran, this spirit and strength of heart must be maintained until the end of one's life.

There is a story about a man whose soul was troubled who came to Abdullah Ibn Mas'ud. The man asked Ibn Mas'ud for advice regarding his troubled state.

Then, Ibn Mas'ud advised the man to read the Qur'an, listen to others recite the Qur'an, go to places where many people read the Qur'an, and understand Allah's commands in the Qur'an. After practicing Ibn Mas'ud's advice to befriend the Qur'an, the man experienced peace of mind, clarity of thought, and physical health.

Maintaining a Clean Heart to Maximize Memorization

The Quran is a light that enters the heart. For its light to be maximally illumined, the heart must always be pure and guarded.

Many scholars explain that the human heart is divided into three types: the qolbun mayyit (dead heart), the qolbun maridh (sick heart), and the qolbun salim (healthy, pure, and safe heart). Discussing heart disease is important for understanding and finding solutions, thus achieving a healthy and pure heart.

The Quran was not revealed merely for recitation or memorization, but rather as a guide for life. Therefore, maintaining a clean heart is crucial for those who memorize it. A clean heart will more easily receive the light of the Quran and connect closely with its meaning. Conversely, a heart filled with disease will hinder the benefits that should be felt from memorizing the Quran.
