5 Virtues of Visiting Sick People According to Islam

It turns out that visiting the sick has many benefits. Illness is a test given by Allah SWT to help us feel grateful for the blessing of health.

Among the many etiquette and practices listed in the Quran, visiting the sick is one of the most noble. There are many virtues to visiting the sick . Here are some of the virtues you can achieve when visiting a sick relative.

1.  Like entering a garden of paradise

The Prophet once said that whoever visits his brother in his sickness is in a garden in Paradise until he returns. If you are willing to spend some time in the morning or evening visiting someone undergoing a health test, it is as if you are in a garden in Paradise, harvesting its fruits.

2.  Being in God's grace

According to the Hadith narrated by Al-Bukhari, anyone who visits someone who is unwell is entering into Allah's mercy from the moment they sit down until they leave and return home.

3.  Receive prayers of goodness delivered by angels

Angels will also always pray for visitors. If you do it in the morning, seventy thousand angels will pray until the afternoon.

Likewise, when you look in the afternoon, the angels will pray until the morning. When angels offer prayers, it means that as many angels are giving you good prayers.

4.  Preparing a residence in heaven

advantage of visiting the sick is that a place has been prepared for them in Paradise, prepared directly by the angels.

Moreover, you are always accompanying a sick relative. Therefore, when visiting, it's better to linger and comfort a sick relative.

5.  Get the guarantee of goodness from Allah

A person who visits the unwell will also receive immense rewards and a guarantee of goodness from Allah SWT. This is narrated in the hadith of Ahmad and At-Thabrani. The Prophet Muhammad said that there are five things that, if you do them, you will receive a guarantee from Allah SWT, and one of them is visiting the sick.

Adab of Visiting Sick People According to Islam

It's not just a simple act of visiting; there are several etiquettes Muslims can follow to gain the benefits of visiting someone who is unwell. The following are the etiquettes for visiting someone who is unwell according to Islam.

1.  Intention

The first step is to prepare a sincere intention. Intention is the key. Resolve to offer encouragement, motivation, and sincere prayers for the person's speedy recovery.

2.  Pay Attention to Time

When visiting, you should also be mindful of the time, so that your visit doesn't disturb their rest time. The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) advised his followers to visit in the morning or evening. These times were chosen to avoid interrupting rest and conflicting with prayer times.

3.  Speaking Softly

Watching your words is paramount. You should speak softly and with caution. Avoid talking that could cause anxiety or even stress to the patient.

4.  Maintain cleanliness

The most important thing is to maintain cleanliness, make sure you wash your hands and wear clean clothes so that when you visit, you don't carry germs or viruses that can worsen your health condition.

5.  Bringing Home Souvenirs

Another etiquette for gaining the virtue of visiting the sick is bringing a gift. The gift in question is a typical gift, such as fruit, healthy food, and much more. Giving gifts is also considered charity, which will bring greater honor and reward.

Health is one of God's blessings, but it's something humans often neglect. Therefore, visiting the sick can increase gratitude and serve as a reminder of the blessing of physical health bestowed by God.
