Heri Mahbub Nugraha
Did you know that the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) had gray hair? According to Shamail Muhammadiyah, there are five suras that caused the Prophet's hair to turn gray: Hud, Al-Waqi'ah, Al-Mursalat, An-Naba', and At-Takwir. Read the story here!

Kordoba Cordoba - Imagine the atmosphere of the night when the Prophet ﷺ sat in silence. He read verses from the Koran with great devotion, his soft voice touched the hearts of his friends who listened intently.
However, these verses are not just reading, they are a great message from Allah about the enormity of the Day of Judgment, about the severity of punishment, and the severity of istiqamah as well as the responsibility to protect the people. As in surah Al-Waqiah verses 1-6.
This means: 1. If the Last Day occurs, 2. its occurrence cannot be denied (denied). 3. (The incident) humbled (one group) and elevated (another group). 4. When the earth is shaken violently, 5. and the mountains are completely destroyed, 6. then it becomes flying dust,
Among the surahs that made the Rasul gray hair, there were Surah Hud, Al-Waqiah, Al-Mursalat, An-Naba, and At-Takwir. The verses describe a frightening apocalypse: the sun is rolled up, the stars fall, humans are divided into 3 groups, and the inevitable reckoning.
Rasulullah ﷺ, with a heart full of love for his people, embraced istiqamah, preparing for their safety before Allah in the future.
The feeling was so heavy that the companions witnessed something different: strands of white hair began to appear on his head and beard ﷺ.
Not because of age, nor because of the burden of the world, but because of sincerity, fear, and great responsibility for Allah's revelation.
Most people go gray due to age, stress, or the burdens of life. However, did you know that the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) also had gray hair ? The difference is, his gray hair wasn't due to worldly pursuits or age or fleeting thoughts, but rather to the profound meaning of God's revelations .
In the verses on the theme of the apocalypse and istiqamah, a hadith is mentioned:
"Abu Bakr once said, 'O Messenger of Allah, you have gray hair.' The Prophet answered:
“ Surah Hud, Al-Waqi'ah, Al-Mursalat, An-Naba', and At-Takwir have caused my hair to turn gray .” (Narrated by Tirmizi)
Then, how powerful are the contents of these surahs to make the Prophet's hair gray?
In Syamail Muhammadiyah chapter 5, noble friend Anas RA. narrated that the Prophet's gray hair was very few.
" I never counted the gray hairs on the head and beard of the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him), except that there were only fourteen strands of white hair ." (Narrated by Tirmidhi)
Subhanallah, the Prophet's hair remained black and beautiful, only a few strands of gray hair were visible as a witness to the heavy burden of the prophetic message that he carried.
Gray hair is not a sign of weakness, but rather a sign of his seriousness in contemplating Allah's verses about istiqamah at the end of time and the Day of Judgment .

This surah emphasizes the importance of faith and istiqamah. Rasulullah SAW had gray hair because of the weight of his mandate to keep the people steadfast in the path of Allah
"So stay on the right path, as you were commanded." (QS. Hud: 112)
Istiqamah is not an easy matter, even Rasulullah SAW felt it as a burden that made his hair turn white.
This surah describes the Day of Judgment in detail, when humans are divided into three groups: the right group, the left group, and those who are first in the faith.
The picture of retribution was so clear that it made Rasulullah SAW reflect more deeply on the fate of his people.
In this surah, Allah affirms the certainty of the Day of Judgment . No one can escape it. Paradise and hell await, depending on one's deeds.
Rasulullah SAW understood very well how serious this message was. Imagine, he was not only thinking about himself, but also about the safety of the entire people.
Also called "great news," this surah explains that the Day of Judgment is truly coming. All human deeds will be rewarded accordingly.
The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) became gray-haired because he reflected on the harsh warning in this surah, while thinking about the fate of the people who were still negligent.
This surah describes the first moments of the apocalypse: the sun is rolled up, the stars fall, the oceans overflow, and the earth is turned upside down.
This powerful image is not merely a symbolic story. The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) embraced it with such faith that its effects were visible in his graying hair .
The few strands of gray hair in the Prophet's hair were a sign of his love for the people. Every verse about the apocalypse is not only read, but interpreted as deeply as possible. That's why his gray hair appeared because of the burden of preaching and longing , not because of world anxiety.
For us, reciting these suras doesn't automatically turn our hair gray. But if we truly reflect on them, our hearts will become softer, our faith stronger, and our lives more passionate about seeking meaning.

From this story, we learn several important things:
The Prophet's light never faded, even 1,500 years after his birth. His graying hair, caused by the verses of the Last Judgment, serves as a reminder to us all:
Have we really meditated on the verses of Allah? Or are we still busy with the mortal world?
Let's make the story of the gray-haired Prophet in Syamail Muhammadiyah a motivation to get closer to the Koran, understand its contents, and maintain faith until the end of our lives.
Wallahu'alam
