The prohibition of alcohol in Islam is not without reason. Medical studies of the Quran, from a health perspective and the Sunnah, prove that alcohol slowly destroys our bodies and hearts. Love yourself, stay away from alcohol.

Quran Cordoba - A Touching Story: A Life Ruined by Alcohol
Asep was a young man known for his intelligence and enthusiasm. However, the wrong crowd led him to alcohol. "Just once in a while," he thought. But that small habit turned into an addiction. Within a few years, he lost his job, his health deteriorated, and his relationship with his family became strained.
After undergoing a medical examination, doctors confirmed that Asep's liver had suffered serious damage. Ironically, it all stemmed from a drinking habit that was considered "normal" among his friends.
Asep's story is not unique. Alcohol has destroyed the health, families, and even futures of many people.
This is where the Medical Quran teaches that Islam does not just prohibit something without reason, but the prohibition is full of wisdom for the good of the people.
The Qur'an explicitly mentions khamar (intoxicating drinks) as something that must be avoided. In the prohibition of khamr it is gradual, the peak is in surah Al-Maidah verse 90, Allah SWT says:
"O you who believe! Indeed wine, gambling, idols, and drawing arrows are unclean, including the actions of Satan, so stay away from it so that you will be lucky." (QS. Al-Maidah: 90)
In another verse, Allah Ta'ala previously said,
" They ask you about wine and gambling. Say: "In both there is a great sin and some benefit for humans, but the sin of both is greater than the benefit ." (QS. Al-Baqarah: 219).
Alcohol is prohibited not only because of its intoxicating effects, which can lead to loss of consciousness, but also because of the dangers of alcohol, which slowly damages the body's organs. The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said:
" Everything that is intoxicating is khamr. Everything that is intoxicating is haram. Whoever drinks khamr in this world and then dies in a state of addiction and does not repent, then he will not drink khamr (which is full of pleasure) in the afterlife ." (HR. Muslim, no. 2003)
This prohibition shows the perfection of Islamic law which is in harmony with the principles of modern health as explained in the concept of the Medical Quran .
Modern research reveals that alcohol can damage nearly every vital organ in the body. Here are some scientifically proven effects:
Alcohol suppresses the immune system, making the body more susceptible to disease. Alcohol can even worsen existing infections.
The liver is the primary organ responsible for detoxifying toxins, including alcohol. Excessive alcohol consumption can lead to cirrhosis, fatty liver disease, and even liver cancer. The Prophet (peace be upon him) once said:
"Alcohol is not a medicine but a disease." (HR. Muslim)
This is in line with medical findings that alcohol has never been a safe therapy for the body.
Alcohol damages brain cells and interferes with neurotransmitters (nerve communication pathways), thus triggering depression, anxiety disorders, and even hallucinations.
Recent research suggests that alcohol causes inflammation of the stomach and intestines. This can lead to chronic gastritis, ulcers, and even stomach and intestinal cancer.
Medical reports have found that alcohol is closely linked to various types of cancer: mouth, throat, liver, breast, and colorectal cancer.
The Medical Quran provides an approach to understanding that every command and prohibition in the Quran has a tangible benefit for human health. The prohibition on alcohol is the most obvious example. Alcohol is not only physically damaging but also mentally and spiritually destructive.
Rasulullah SAW once said:
Meaning: "Indeed, Allah has sent down both the disease and the cure, and has made a cure for every disease. So seek medical treatment, but do not seek treatment with anything that is forbidden." (Narrated by Abu Dawud)
This hadith shows that Islam has long since prohibited its followers from seeking "health" in ways that actually damage the body, such as consuming alcohol.
In Islamic jurisprudence, wine is included in the category of absolute haram . There is no compromise whatsoever, even in small amounts. Rasulullah SAW said:
"What is intoxicating in large quantities, then even a small amount of it is haram." (HR. Ahmad)
Thus, the claim that “a little alcohol is okay” is false. Whether a little or a lot, alcohol is still forbidden.
Alcohol is often seen as a way to have fun. However, its effects are actually detrimental to a person's life. Many accidents, domestic violence, and crimes occur due to the influence of alcohol.
The Medical Quran teaches that avoiding alcohol not only maintains health, but also maintains emotional stability, family harmony, and self-respect.
The prohibition of alcohol, derived from the Quran and the Sunnah of the Prophet Muhammad, is in line with modern scientific findings. This proves that Islamic law is a blessing that protects humanity.
Asep's story at the beginning of this article is clear evidence that alcohol never brings good. It actually destroys your future, your health, and even your faith.
Islam does not forbid anything except because of its grave harm. Alcohol, in all its forms, is a poison to the body, soul, and society . By adhering to the laws of alcohol as taught in the Qur'an and Sunnah, we are actually protecting ourselves from destruction.
“Stay away from alcohol and consume good things.” (Medical Quran, p. 219)
Now, it's time to reflect: is a momentary pleasure worth exchanging for our health, happiness, and future? Let's return to the path taught by the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him), filled with the light of the Sunnah and the blessings of the medical Quran .
Wallahu'alam
