Quran Cordoba - Among the greatest blessings of Allah SWT to His servants is when a believer is still given the longing to be devout in prayer. Because in essence, devout prayer is not merely an obligation, but a profound need of the soul.
In the chaos of life, amidst the heaviness of the world, we all long for a quiet space—a place where we can rely wholeheartedly on God. That space is prayer accompanied by a sense of reverence.
But who among us hasn't complained: the difficulty of bringing the heart to life? The loss of focus? The lack of meaning? So how can we make the heart more present? The answer is to keep praying, and keep learning to perfect each series of movements and recitations.
Furthermore, as Muslims, we are encouraged to strive through prayer, asking Him for a sense of reverence. For truly, nothing can subdue our souls and hearts except with the help of the Lord of the hearts.
So the following is a collection of prayers taught by the Koran, the Prophet ﷺ, and the scholars so that we can be given a sense of solemnity, gentleness of heart, and enjoyment in worship.
It is recommended by many scholars as a wirid before prayer, because it contains the Asmaul Husana and the shaking power of monotheism.
Huwalloohul ladzii laa ilaaha illa huwa 'aalimul ghoibi wasy syahaadati huwar rohmaanur rohiim(u) [22] huwalloohul ladzii laa ilaaha illaa huwal malikul qudduusus salaamul mu`minul muhaiminul 'aziizul jabbaarul mutakabbir(u), subhaanalloohi 'ammaa yusyrikuun(a) [23] huwalloohul khooliqul baari`ul mushowwiru lahul asmaaa`ul husnaa, yusabbihu lahuu maa fis samaawaati wal ardh(i), wa huwal 'aziizul hakiim(u). [24]
"[22] Allah, there is no God (who has the right to be worshipped) but He, Who knows the unseen and the real. He is the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.
[23] He is Allah, there is no God (who has the right to be worshipped) but He. The King, the Most Holy, the Most Prosperous, the Most Giving Security, the Most Sustaining, the Most Mighty, the Almighty, and the One Who Has All Glory. Glory be to Allah from what they fellowship.
[ 24] He is Allah, the Creator, the Creator, the One who forms beautiful names. (QS Al-Hashr: 22–24)
“Alloohumma innii a'uudzubika min qolbin laa yakhsya', wa min du'aa`in laa yusma', wa min nafsin laa tasyba', wa min 'ilmin laa yanfa', a'uudzubika min haa`ulaail arba'”
" O Allah, I seek refuge in You from a heart that is not humble, from a prayer that is not heard, from a soul that is never satisfied, and from knowledge that is not beneficial. I seek refuge in You from these four things ." (Narrated by Tirmidhi No. 3482, authenticated by Al-Albani)
These four diseases are the main obstacles to a sense of solemnity. So this prayer becomes a reflection of reflection before standing before Allah SWT.
The early scholars, especially the Sufis, also had a special prayer for Allah to grant a soft and calm heart in worship:
“Alloohummaj'al qurrota 'aynii fis sholaah, wa habbib ilayya liqoo`ak, wa laa taj'alid dunyaa akbaro hammii wa laa mablagho 'ilmii”
"O Allah, make prayer the coolness of my eyes, make me love the encounter with You, and do not make the world the peak of attention and the limit of knowledge for me."
Because we often perform prayer, but have not yet made it a "home." So this prayer is a request that prayer become the most comfortable home for our hearts.
Alloohumma a'innii 'alaa dzikrika wa syukrika wa husni 'ibaadatik
" O Allah, help me to remember You, give thanks to You, and worship as best as I can ." (HR. Abu Dawud)
Being solemn is a gift, not a skill. This prayer was taught directly by the Prophet to his beloved friend, Mu'adz bin Jabal.
Robbanaa laa tuzigh quluubanaa ba'da idz hadaytanaa wa hablanaa mil ladunka rohmatan innaka antal wahhaab
" O our Lord, do not make our hearts turn away after You have guided us and bestowed upon us grace from Your presence. Indeed, You are the Most Giving . (QS Ali Imron: 8)
How many people have been given guidance, only to falter because their hearts were not guarded. This prayer, then, is a fortress for the heart to remain on the path of faith.
These are some prayers that we can practice to ask for a sense of solemnity. Because solemnity does not come suddenly. It needs to be nourished with an understanding of meaning, moistened with sincere prayers, and trained in consistent worship.
For this reason, we also present the pocket book Understanding the Meaning of Prayer as a practical and reflective guide, so that we don't just "do" prayer, but really live it.
This book not only explains the meaning of prayer readings and movements, but also reveals the spiritual meaning hidden behind every word and movement. So, every prostration is not just bowing, but is a hug to the Almighty.
