Quran Cordoba - Imitate the family life of the Prophet ﷺ, from cleaning clothes to milking goats. In the book of Syamail Muhammadiyah, there is in the 342nd hadith from Cordoba, an interesting example of the Prophet's activities in his house,
"Aisyah was once asked, 'What did the Messenger of Allah do in his house?' He answered, 'He is a human being like other humans, he cleans his clothes, milks his goats, and serves himself' (HR. Tirmizi)
We often imagine the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) as someone who spent all his time worshipping or leading the community. As if he lived in the mosque forever. However, he was also a human being like us, carrying out his normal activities.
Even often helps his family, very close and harmonious with his wife.
Her home was filled with simplicity. Questions like, "What does she do at home?" opened the door to a very human—and very noble—side of life.
Here is the explanation:

According to Aisyah RA, when asked:
“What did the Prophet ﷺ do in his house?”
" He was like other humans—he cleaned his clothes, milked his goats, and served himself. " (Hadith narrated by At-Tirmizi in Syamā'il Muhammadiyah)
The Prophet Muhammad was an ordinary human being like the rest of us, but he was chosen by Allah to be His messenger. He received revelations and a message. His life can be emulated by all mankind.
A similar hadith is narrated in Imam Bukhari's Al-Adab al-Mufrad—that the Prophet ﷺ used to pull out his nails, wash his clothes and milk his goats.
In addition, Imam Ahmad narrated that he:
• Sew the clothes if they are torn,
• Fixing his sandals,
• And work at home like other men
• Meanwhile, in Sahih Al-Bukhari, the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said that he helped with his family's household affairs "then went out when the time for prayer arrived."
Aisyah radhiallahu 'anha said
" The Messenger of Allah was busy helping his wife, and when prayer time came, he went to pray " (HR Bukhari)
Why did Rasulullah ﷺ do all that? As an example for the people, he taught:
• Humility, not feeling too noble for everyday matters.
• Independent and not dependent on others simply because of his status as a prophet.
• Role model in the family, that every member—including the head of the family—is worthy and capable of helping with household chores.
This attitude conveys an important message: hopefully we are not embarrassed to help with household chores, in fact it is part of Islamic character.
In modern times, being with your partner as equals in the house is not only ideal, but sunnah! Rasulullah ﷺ has given the best example:
• Imagine a great leader—who created civilization—also willing to wash clothes and sew sandals.
• If a very noble person behaves like that, of course we ordinary people should not see housework as something lowly.
In many cultures, helping around the house is still considered a “woman’s duty”—even though it is actually a noble sunnah.
“ Indeed, in the Messenger of Allah you have a good example to follow for anyone who hopes for Allah and the Last Day and remembers Allah often .” (QS. Al-Ahzab, 33: 21)
Simple ways to bring these morals to life in modern life:
Practical Activities - Values Conveyed
Washing your own clothes or helping with the family's laundry - Shows that there is no such thing as a lowly job.
Repairing your own things like clothes or shoes - Teaches independence and not being wasteful
Helping with cooking, housekeeping, or childcare - Reflects shared care and responsibility
Serving the family without complaining - Inheriting the Prophet's example of humility
In another hadith, 'Aisyah radhiallahu 'anha relates that the Prophet did simple things to help his wives, such as lifting buckets and sewing their clothes.
Urwah said to Aisyah, "O Ummul Mu'minin, what would Rasulullah sallallaahu 'alaihi wa sallam do if he was with you (in your house)?"
Aisha said, “He does (like) what one of you does when he is helping his wife, he repairs her sandals, sews her clothes, and carries water in a bucket ” (HR Ibn Hibban).
Rasulullah ﷺ was not only a role model in spirituality and worship—he was also a role model in everyday life. Helping with household matters is not a sign of weakness, but rather a manifestation of Ihsan, setting an example in family life and love for Allah.
The Muhammadiyah Syamail Book provides inspiration and lessons. We need to read and study it in everyday life. Examples for at home, mosque or in the community.
Let us cultivate these morals in our homes—by helping, serving, and being humble like the Prophet ﷺ. May we all embody the values he so beautifully exemplified.
Wallahu'alam
